Teach for an Hour

TEACH AN HOUR

- What can you do with 1.5 hours?

We offer a wide range of volunteering opportunities to help children from underprivileged backgrounds. Starting from October 2007, we have launched a weekend tutor programme with local schools in some of the most socio-economically deprived districts of Hong Kong. You can help these children by spending part of your weekend with them: teach them core subjects such as English and Science, or develop your own curriculum ranging from personal finance management to creative design. Your role as teachers will make a difference to these students.

Our ideal candidate?

Anyone who is enthusiastic about helping children, with or without prior teaching experience. However, volunteers should be able to speak fluent English. To ensure continuous support for these children, we ask that you sign up for a minimum of 2 weekends during any school term (Autumn: October-December, Spring: February-May). Here's what you can do:

Executive Committee: Be involved in liaising with headmasters on the progress of the children, allocating the right number of volunteers and children to each school, coordinating a team of volunteers on the day, overseeing the running of the site and planning for future events.

Volunteer Teacher: Be involved in teaching a group of up to six children for a Saturday morning, on topics of your choice.
