Summer Programme - Summer School
In Access HK, we try to supplement the mainstream education by stimulating the students' own initiative in learning the English language. Participating children will attend lessons and recreational activities organized by students from some of the leading universities in the world. With a small volunteer teacher to student ratio, we wish to provide students with lessons that are both fun and useful. Lessons will be based in English and incorporate a wide range of elements taken from everyday life, from show business to current affairs and environmental conservation. Perhaps most importantly, we hope that children will gain confidence in themselves and realize that learning is tool and companion for life which they can continually refine.

AccessHK has a long tradition of helping underprivileged children in primary schools every summer, and we run a 3-week summer programme for children between the ages of 9 to 12. The lessons are designed, run and managed by student volunteers, most of whom come from the world’s top universities.
Our aim is to give these children a chance to learn English whilst having fun, boosting confidence and acquiring vital life skills for the future. Such skills range from merely being brave enough to speak English in front of class. However, it is not all work, as we spend a lot of time outside the classroom running recreational activities and site visits.
Here is what our previous volunteers have to say about the Access HK Summer Programme:
AccessHK 2010 was an extremely meaningful event to my summer. It might have only been a mere three weeks but it also made me lifelong friendships and taught me numerous skills that cannot be learnt inside a classroom such as communication skills and how to be a better person in general.
Victoria Ip (University of Toronto) – Volunteer 2010
... I initially hesitated and was not entirely sure whether I had made the right choice. Nevertheless, I wish I could stay longer in the end since I simply miss every student and friend that I met at school! I would recommend this teaching program to those who want to spend their summer meaningfully and are looking for new challenges. Joining Access HK will definitely give you an incredibly fun experience which you will truly miss and remember.
Christine Tam (University College London) – Volunteer 2010
AccessHk was an unforgettable experience that reached far beyond my initial expectations! Whatever hesitations or uncertainties that I had reserved in myself was washed away with the welcoming arms of the staff, teachers and students. The program gave me the opportunity to explore and hone my skills as a teacher, as well as uncover my strengths and what I can offer to students inside and outside the classroom. There is nothing more gratifying and rewarding than witnessing the students learn and grow as individuals and know that I played a part in their development. Ultimately, AccessHk has made my summer incredibly enriching, meaningful and memorable!
